The story behind the song: By Bradley Boyer
The song 'Gasoline' is a strong symbolic metaphor for many things we all drive by in life, some which we can easily control, and others that may control us.
In fact, there is many metaphors in this song all wrapped into one.
As a kid, did you ever wonder when you were riding in a car, low on gas, if would you have better chances making it by going slow to conserve fuel? ..and take twice as long? Or could you actually beat the odds by driving at a fast, steady pace?
These are questions we all can relate to, and not just behind the wheel. There are people in life who have a firm grasp on the wheel and know where they're headed.
There are others who feel they're in control, but other forces around them seem to drive them through life. The irony is many of us don't feel we have the power to change events, or perhaps we simply just don't think about it that often.
The moment you're driving on a long desert highway, high noon, with the suns heat pouring down upon you, there's a feeling of vulnerability there. We've all had times when something, or someone, pushes us to the point of loosing it. If you know you have a long road ahead of you, there may be tricks which your mind can plays on you. Crank the radio, pour cold water on your face, and roll down the windows. Everyone has their own ways of "keeping your cool" and staying in control.
Taking risks is what life's about, otherwise it can pass you by. It's about gaining something positive through all the chaos. Our song somewhat walks the fine line between somber philosophy and youthful angst. Have you ever lived out the adventure you've always dreamed of?
